Acupuncture
Meet Kari....
Hello! My name is Kari Gardner. Like most of us I wear many hats. I am the owner and acupuncturist at CNYCA. I am a mom of 2 awesome kids. I have an awesome husband who also runs his own business (he's a forester, in case you need one). I have a cat and a dog. I live in CNY and am originally (mostly) from Rochester, NY. I believe in the body's innate ability to heal itself. But I also believe that we are under a lot of external and internal stressors that make it hard for our bodies to stay in balance. All of the "alternative" or complementary medicine modalities are tools that you can use to help your body find and maintain that balance.
Here are some of the things people most often ask me:
Why don't you have more available hours?
I homeschool my kids and the "home" part of homeschooling is a total misnomer. We are almost never home and I put about a million miles a week (feels like it, at least) on my car taking them from activity to activity. So, I work in acupuncture around the "home" education. Check in in about 2030 and I'll probably have more available hours :-)
Where did you go to school and how long have you been doing this?
The New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, NY. I did not go to chiropractic school. Just acupuncture. Well, and Chinese herbs. I was in the first class to graduate from that program in 2006. Before that, I worked as an acupuncturist's assistant and apprentice. So, technically the whole acupuncture journey for me began circa 2002.
Why did you switch to community acupuncture?
I have worked in several different integrative healthcare centers in my years as a practitioner. There is a critical problem with integrative medicine in our current world. Basically, for almost all people, complementary medicine is out-of-pocket. And, most cannot afford to get acupuncture and massage and see a nutritionist and a therapist... So, I joined the movement to make acupuncture more accessible and affordable and thereby do my part to make integrative medicine more of a reality. There's still a long way to go but community acupuncture is a start!
Do you work with herbs?
I used to have a full, Chinese raw-herb dispensary in my office in Rochester. I. Love. Working. With. Herbs. But when I started using more Western herbals, supplements, homeopathy and essential oils I backed off on the Chinese herbal medicine. Then, when I switched over to Community Acupuncture, I had much less time to dedicate to the formulation of herbal treatment plans. So, if you need a recommendation for something you can grab at Green Planet or Nature Tyme, I can help you out. But if you need a complete plan, I have many friends that I trust and can highly recommend to get you going.
I'll be happy to answer any other questions you might have! Send me an email or we can chat when I see you at CNYCA!
